JAM festival organisers reveal film programme
MOVIE FANS will watch in interest in the coming weeks as the line-up for Scotland’s first outdoor film festival begins to take shape.
Just as the acts at T in the Park are announced over time, the films that will take centre stage at the Just About Movies (JAM) event are gradually being revealed.
It’s just another sign that the ambitious event, which will take place this August in the stunning surroundings of Tullibole Castle near Crook of Devon, is becoming a reality.
As many as 600 move fans will descend upon Kinross-shire to enjoy the new, threeday event whose organisers hope to change how people watch movies.
A series of screens — protected by tents against the Scottish weather — will be erected in the grounds, each themed and curated by the event’s partners.
Glasgow Film Festival (GFF), Perth Playhouse, A1 Comics and scary films specialists All Night Horror Madness are all on board to help those behind the event come up with a cracking line-up.
Luc Besson’s modern classic Leon — which put Natalie Portman on the road to stardom — is the first film to be announced for the main, deckchair-filled, JAM Cinema stage.
A more recent offering is the first to be selected by GFF’s co-director Allison Gardner, who will present Wes Anderson’s critically-acclaimed The Grand Budapest Hotel.
The line-up for the horror/sci-fi tent — nestled in the woods for maximum late night scares — is also beginning to take shape.
Though the horror element is yet to be fulfilled, it will boast the new update of 2000AD’s Dredd and Fanboys.
Meanwhile, the Beanbag Cinema will boast Next Goal Wins, which documents the uplifting true story of American Samoa — dubbed “the world’s worst football team” — andTheWay, directed by Emilio Estevez and starring his father, Martin Sheen.
Another film certain to be on the listings is horror film Plan Z, directed by Welsh Bafta winner Stuart Brennan.
It brought zombies to the streets of Perth, Kinross, Dunfermline and to Tullibole Castle itself during filming and will have its Scottish premiere at the festival.
The opportunity to camp out — even the campsite will have a screen — and enjoy a variety a fine foods, a bar, live acoustic music, quizzes, competitions, demonstrations and Q&As will all add to the festival experience.
“We are starting to release line-up details for Just About Movies 2014,” said festival director Jo Hood.
“It’s a harder job than you might think, with so many great films to choose from.”
Looking forward to the festival every bit as much as the organisers is Roderick Moncrieff, whose grounds at Tullibole will provide the venue.
“I think it will be a fantastic event and it’s great to see the line-up beginning to take shape,” Lord Moncrieff said. “I hope it’s a huge success.” Tickets for the festival, which is open to movie fans aged 18 and over and runs from August 29-31, will be available from www. justaboutmovies.co.uk.
