Saints caretaker given job on permanent basis
STANDREWS last night confirmed that former Aberdeen, Doncaster Rovers and Dunfermline defender Phil McGuire has been confirmed as their new manager.
He wa s re c e n t l y appointed caretaker after the departures of Gus Malone and Alan Ramsay and has now accepted the offer of the job on a permanent basis.
He got off to a winning start, with Saints defeating Camelon in last night’s Super League fixture, thanks to the only goal of the game, scored by Kamil Kadela with a volley from the edge of the box after 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, there was disappointment in last night’s Fife & Lothians Cup semi-f inals, with Fife’s pair biting the dust.
Super League Champions-elect Bo’ness proved too strong for Kelty Hearts at Newtown Park after scoring a goal in each half.
Nicky Walker got the opener after 20 minutes, with Darren Gribben getting t he s econd midway through the second half.
It was even closer in the other semi-final at Prestonfield where Iain Diack’s second-half goal for Linlithgow edged out Hill of Beath and set up an all-Lothian final.
Finally, and again on the managerial front, Oakley United last night confirmed the appointment of James Watt as their new manager.
He was manager of Lochgelly Albert but, like his newly appointed assistant, Calum Graham, he is a former Oakley player. Last night’s results:— DFT Fife & Lothians Cup semi- f i nals — Bo’ness Utd 2 Kelty Hearts 0, Linlithgow Rose 1 Hill of Beath Hawthorn 0.
