Police officer honoured
A Tayside police officer who played a key role at the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles has been recognised for her service to the community.
A TAYSIDE police officer who played a key role during the recent Ryder Cup at Gleneagles has been recognised for her service to the community.
Sergeant Sandra Williams has worked in Perth and Kinross and Angus for the past 30 years and for the last four years she has been community sergeant for Kinross, Strathearn and Strathallan.
She was presented with the community service award at Police Scotland’s Scottish Women’s Development Forum (SWDF) Awards.
Judges for the awards commented: “Sgt Williams is at the heart of her community, both in a private and professional capacity, often putting the needs of the community before her own needs. She regularly provides the vital link between the local community and large-scale events such as T in the Park and the Ryder Cup.
“She is a supportive leader of her team and is described as an inspiration and a role model. With 30 years’ service, Sgt Williams is still going strong and serving her community with real passion.”
Presenting the awards, Chief Constable Sir Stephen House said Police Scotland was committed to developing its women officers and staff to ensure that they reach their full potential.
He added: “Today’s winners demonstrate the hard work and dedication of Police Scotland’s women officers and staff and the breadth of roles they undertake, whether it is in serving their local communities, tackling domestic abuse or carrying out specialist roles.”
The SWDF was founded 10 years ago and Scottish Police Authority chairman Vic Emery said the organisation has played a valuable role in raising awareness of gender equality within the service.
