Young mum loses battle

A YOUNG mum has died of cancer, just a few years after watching her son recover from the disease.

Hayley Marie Cameron, 33, pictured battled throat cancer for two years before she passed away on Saturday.

She was raised in the Angus village of Auchmithie and moved to the Perth Road area of Dundee after having her two sons, Joshua, 14, and Jamie, 13.

Joshua was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma aged five but made a full recovery.

Two years ago Hayley received her own shock cancer diagnosis after going to the doctor for a pain in her throat.

The boys will now be cared Hayley’s mother, Angela Pieroni.

Last night Angela said: “Two years ago Hayley started getting pains in her throat.

“The diagnosis came out of the blue. It was a complete shock. The doctors thought she would get better.

“She had chemotherapy, radiotherapy and had a neck dissection but it then spread.

“Last October the doctors said it was terminal and that she had a year to live.”

Angela said the family, including

for by Hayley’s brothers John and David and sisters Aileen and Emma, were “devastated” after she passed away at her home.

After attending Inverkeilor Primary School and Arbroath High School, Hayley focused on raising her sons. She studied at home to gain three Higher A-passes, which allowed her to study English at Dundee University.

“Hayley had to come out of university for a year when Joshua wasreceiving treatment,” said Angela, 52.

“She had only just graduated and had plans to be a teacher.”

Last year Hayley moved to Glasgow, thinking her sons would receive a better education. Angela, who works for HM Revenue and Customs, also relocated to look after her daughter.

“I’m moving to Bishopbriggs because the boys are settled there and have all their friends there and I don’t want to move them.

“I’ve already transferred my job from Dundee to Glasgow as I’ve been looking after her for the last year. She died in her own home on Saturday with me.”

The funeral will be held at Parkgrove Crematorium in Friockheim tomorrow.
