Confident Cummings praised by team-mate
HIBERNIAN midfielder Scott Allan insists the sky is the limit for Jason Cummings, describing the bubbly starlet as like a “mix between David Goodwillie and Johnny Russell”.
Cummings, 19, is expected to lead the line in Sunday’s Edinburgh derby clash against Hearts after becoming a f irst- team regular under head coach Alan Stubbs, netting four goals in his last eight outings.
He was named Championship young player of the month in September following his blistering start to the season, while Scotland under-21 manager Billy Stark hinted this week he was monitoring the striker’s progress.
However, Cummings’ rise to prominence has come as no surprise to Allan.
“Jason wasn’t playing professional football until just over a year ago so for him to look at how far he has come is incredible,” he said.
“As I keep saying to him, if he keeps kicking on and improving, then who knows where he could end up.
“He could play at a very high level.
“Jason is like a mix between David Goodwillie and Johnny Russell when I was at Dundee United, I tell him that all the time. I see similarities there.”
Cummings’ post-match quips have become as r e n ow n e d as his goalscoring prowess.
He boasted t hat he “opened up a can of beans” with a “decent zing” against Hamilton l ast season, before displaying his “touch like an angel” to open the scoring against Rangers last month.
“The wee one-liners are just what he is like as a person. A lot of people who don’t know him might judge him too quickly — but he has always been like that,” said Allan.
