Perthshire schoolgirl has Peru in her sights

-

A TEENAGER from Perthshire is looking foward to spending a year as a volunteer in a children’s home in Peru.

From August, Perth High School pupil Jenna Clark will live and work with some of the poorest children in Peru as she embarks on her big adventure.

She will be helping to care for orphans, street children, and other youngsters who cannot be cared for by their parents.

While 17- year- old Jenna is having some Spanish lessons at school to help her communicate, she is expecting it will take a few months for her fluency to improve enough to be able to chat freely with locals.

Jenna’s mother, Audrey Clark, said: “It’s a massive adventure and an incredible undertaking for one so young.”

Jenna will be taking part through an organisation called the Project Trust and, in order to make the trip, she has to raise £5,900.

So far she has raised more than £2,500 but she has a number of events planned which she hopes will take her over the finish line, including a charity disco at the Civil Service Club in Perth on Saturday March 28.

The teenager from Abernethy will also be holding a raffle, with prizes already donated by local businesses, and she is planning a sponsored walk across Scotland.

One of her friends is helping to boost the total by selling items online.

Jenna has just returned from a trip to Bongani High School in South Africa, a trip she made with other pupils from Perth High.
