A fledgling Dundee computer games company is hoping its Mutiny will lead to a bounty of rewards after winning a major industry prize.

Hidden Armada scooped £40,000 in the Scottish Edge awards to progress its ambitious plans.

Formed by Abertay University graduates Will Wright and Michael Doig, the company is developing a PC game called Mutiny which is controlled by the player’s mobile phone.

The debut title is an action-packed multi-player pirate game where players battle pirates intent on stealing their treasures and sinking their ship before they can reach their island paradise.

Placing it under Dragon’s Den-type scrutiny, Scottish Edge judges saw the game as more than just a piece of entertainment.

Its synchronicity between PC and mobile phone was an extra technological quality and revealed a potential for wider development. tainment, allowing users to interact in different ways at the same time.”

Hidden Armada has been working on the game and its technology along with carrying out contract work for other games makers. The Scottish Edge prize will now allow the team to focus 100% on its own product.

Will added: “We believe there is a great potential in what we have produced, and we want to see how far we can take it.”

He thanked the Scottish Edge judges and also the Entrepreneurial Spark business accelerator scheme for their support.

Scottish Edge winners were awarded a total of £900,000 in being declared the most promising start-up businesses with the potential to bring the maximum return for the Scottish economy.

Chairman David Shearer was impressed by the enterprises, and added: “I’m sure many of the finalists are destined to become well known as they grow and generate wealth and jobs.”
