New friends group will meet to discuss community issues
A new social initiative was launched in Perth yesterday.
Friendly Communities is a new community-based project in Letham.
The purpose of the group is to give residents the opportunity to meet monthly in a social setting to have a chat, meet others in their community and discuss issues that may be concerning them.
It is hoped that the group will be able to use the initiative to find ways to support each other with any aspect of their lives and possibly find solutions to issues, whether they be personal or community focused.
The group will meet on the third Friday of every month in the Letham Sports Centre, and the nature of the ongoing activities and social events will be directed by the group’s participants.
The launch took place at Letham Park, Rannoch Road, with a barbecue and activities including mini golf, beat the goalie, face painting and a demonstration on how to cook a meal for under £5.
Dave Doogan, convener of Perth and Kinross Council’s housing and health committee, said: “Groups such as these are a great way to create links throughout a community and will hopefully open up new communications channels between the council and residents.
“I hope that Letham residents will see the benefit of the opportunity and embrace the chance to strengthen their community and relationships.”
The launch event was supported by the mental health and drug and alcohol team, Letham Primary School, Live Active Leisure, the local church and other community groups.
