Firefighte­rs attended at a Perth garage yesterday after a car caught fire. The incident took place at the BP station at the Triangle, Dunkeld Road, around 2pm.

A spokespers­on for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said one fire appliance attended and used one hose reel to put out the fire. No one was injured as a result.

The Macmillan Cancer Support fundraisin­g group who were out on the High Street collected £479.83.

“Thank you to everyone who came out to support the team in the very unseasonal weather,” said a spokespers­on for the group. In addition to the Auchterard­er total, committee member Helen Laing collected £403.68 in Blackford.

Over 100 residents from care homes across Perth and Kinross took part in the fourth annual care home challenge event, Go4Gold at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth.

Go4Gold is one of the largest events of its kind in Scotland and highlights how physical activity can contribute positively to residents’ quality of life. Participat­ing residents came from 36 care homes across the area, representi­ng older people of all abilities. They competed at “kurling”, target golf, hooking for ducks and beanbag basketball. Teams were welcomed by Councillor Mike Williamson and Perth High School Ceilidh Band played for a tea dance.
