TV naturalist urges spending time outdoors
BBC presenter and naturalist Chris Packham has urged Britons to spend their summer solstice outside – whatever the weather this weekend – after a study showed one in 14 adults will not see any sunlight on the longest day of the year.
The figure rises to one in 10 British adults aged between 18 and 24, according to a study by outdoor travel and adventure brand Kathmandu ahead of the summer solstice tomorrow.
The 2,000 people taking part in the survey said reasons for shunning the outdoors included work commitments, the weather and distractions such as games consoles and electrical devices.
The Springwatch presenter, 54, said: “Being outdoors provides all sorts of health benefits.
“We also know that spending time in a green environment is beneficial to our mental health as well as our physical health.”
