City to be decked out in tartan
Perth will be decked out in a “touch of tartan” in August, with a series of high-profile events taking place in the city.
The weekend of August 8-9 will see the fourth annual Perth Kilt Run take place on the Saturday, with the Perth Highland Games being held on the following day.
This year’s Kilt Run will offer participants the choice of the original 5K run, a new Touch of Tartan half-marathon and three kilted walk events: 5k, half-marathon and marathon length.
Participants in each of the running/walking events are being encouraged to raise money for a host of charities.
Family entertainment has been lined up, with the legendary Bay City Rollers performing as well as Perthshire singer Dougie MacLean.
The tartan theme will continue with the Perth Highland Games. All the traditional Highland events will be held, including heavyweight tossing the caber, Highland dancing and bagpipe competitions for solo pipers and pipe bands.
Perth’s eating establishments are joining the fun by hosting a Touch of Tartan restaurant day on August 9, featuring free cooking demonstrations and food tastings in the city centre.
Perth and Kinross Provost Liz Grant said: “Perth Kilt Run has become an annual highlight of the summer calendar. With the fantastic Perth Highland Games on the Sunday, we’ve got a full weekend of tartan activities to suit everyone.”
