Federer makes it eight wins at the Gerry Weber
Roger Federer continued his mastery of the Gerry Weber Open, winning at Halle for the eighth time yesterday.
The Swiss star, the world No 2, has now won 86 tour-level titles and 15 on grass after Andreas Seppi was defeated 7-6 (7/1) 6-4.
There was just one break of serve in the one hour 48 minute meeting, Federer breaking down Seppi in the second set having picked up the first on a tie-break.
The 33-year-old managed 14 aces to the Italian’s one and Federer has now won all but one of the pair’s 13 head-tohead meetings.
His phenomenal haul at Halle makes him just the third player in the Open era to win eight times in a single event, joining Rafael Nadal (French Open, Monte Carlo, Barcelona) and Guillermo Vilas (Buenos Aires).
