Perthshire test of strength, stamina and mentaldetermination

- Richard Burdge

One of the most physically demanding challenge events held in Scotland is looking for participants to tackle an obstacle course designed by the marines.

Perthshire’s Lanrick Challenge provides the ultimate test of physical strength, stamina and mental determination. The 6k and 12k rural obstacle courses challenge participants’ limits to the extreme, as they run, climb, wade, jump and crawl their way through the countryside near Doune.

The event, which takes place on Saturday August 8, has chosen The Sandpiper Trust and Help Our Wounded Royal Marines and Supporting Arms as its beneficiaries. The challenge was set up in 2014 by Penny and Aly Dickson, who founded the Sandpiper Trust after their son Sandy tragically drowned aged 14.

The Sandpiper Trust which is based at Aberuthven, donates emergency medical kits, known as Sandpiper Bags, to doctors, nurses and paramedics who have been trained in immediate care and provides defibrillators and CPR training across Scotland. Designed by 45 Commando Royal Marines of Arbroath, those who take part in the challenge will face up to 50 obstacles as they run, walk, and wade their way around Lanrick Estate. Penny Dickson, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for two fantastic charities to work together and for us to help raise awareness and funds for both, which is very close to our heart.

“We are very excited about entering our second year and introducing a range of new obstacles for people to enjoy, we are also looking forward to welcoming many local businesses who are using this event as a very different type of team building day.”

“The Lanrick Challenge is all about having fun, no matter what your ability. We are really proud to be involved in an event that provides so much fun for so many different types of people whilst raising funds for two vital charities.” To enter online go to www. lanrickchallenge.com
