-

There was happy ending to the tale of a stowaway Fife dog that hitched a train ride to Dundee – all by itself.

While his owner dozed off at Leuchars railway station the inquisitive pooch, thought to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, decided to embark on a solo journey to the City of Discovery.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Coreen Hill said the charity was contacted by railway network staff.

She added: “He was rescued from the train at Dundee railway station and we were able to trace his owner thanks to staff reviewing CCTV footage.

“The rail staff in Dundee were absolutely fantastic with the dog and we would like to thank them for all their help.”

A spokeswoman for ScotRail confirmed the dog had got on a train at Leuchars.

She said: “Our conductor safely got the dog off the train at Dundee, and our station staff looked after him while the owner was traced.”
