Detectives launch fresh appeal over armed robbery of pensioner

A four-week investigation into the terrifying robbery of a 75-year-old Kinross-shire woman has so far drawn a blank.

Catherine Davies was on her own when she came face to face with an intruder armed with a screwdriver in the living room of her Balado home.

He demanded that she stay put while a second man rummaged through her belongings upstairs.

The pair eventually made off with around £10,000 worth of personal items, cash and jewellery.

Now a month on from the incident, investigators said the men responsible were still at large .

Detective Inspector Marshall McKay said: “It’s now four weeks since this crime occurred and detectives continue to make efforts to trace the men responsible.”

Police have circulated an e-fit of their lead suspect and revisited Mrs Davies’ home a week after the incident to quiz passing motorists.

Mrs Davies, who branded the thieves as “cowards”, said she never saw the second man, but heard him rifling through her upstairs bedroom.

Shortly before the robbery, a young man appeared at the pensioner’s front door and claimed to be offering gardening work. He was said to be about 18, tanned and was wearing a grey or blue jersey.

The man who entered her living room was described as in his twenties, thin, with brown eyes and short, brown hair. He had a goatee beard and was wearing a blue hooded top.

The incident happened just after 1pm on Wednesday June 17. DI McKay said: “If anyone recognises the men from their description, I would urge them to contact police on 101.”
