Adam Ant’s ex-boss accused of fan attack

COURT: Singer’s former manager denies assaulting woman in Perthshire

- Jamie Buchan

The former tour manager of music icon Adam Ant is on trial accused of attacking a fan at her home in Perthshire.

Alan Alexander, right, denies he assaulted his ex-partner in a row over pop memorabilia, which he claims she stole from him.

Yvonne Langlands, 44, was left with broken ribs and bruised wrists after the alleged altercation at her Methven cottage.

Alexander, from Dundee, claims he was acting in self-defence.

Perth Sheriff Court heard the couple connected over their interest in eighties pop heroes Adam and the Ants. The pair then teamed up to sell music memorabilia, including signed posters, on eBay.

After their relationship soured, Alexander allegedly turned up at Ms Langlands’ home and accused her of theft.

The former manager of pop idol Adam Ant appeared in court yesterday accused of assaulting his ex-partner in a row over “stolen” memorabilia.

Alan “Alex” Alexander faces allegations that he attacked fan Yvonne Langlands at her home in Perthshire and cracked two of her ribs.

The pair got together after Ms Langlands recognised Alexander on an internet dating site as the Prince Charming singer’s ex-boss.

Ms Langlands said they went on just three dates before things went sour and she was forced to block him from her phone and from Facebook.

Yesterday, 45-year-old Alexander, of Corran Gardens, Dundee, went on trial at Perth Sheriff Court, accused of assaulting Ms Langlands at her Methven home on the morning of June 2.

He denies the charge, which alleges he attempted to force his way into the property, struck her with a door, seized her by the wrists and pushed her on the body to her injury. He claims he was acting in self-defence.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, Ms Langlands said she first noticed Alexander on the website Plenty of Fish, but already knew him as Alex Alexander, Adam Ant’s ex-manager.

“I recognised him from previous tours they had done together,” she said.

The court heard the pair agreed to meet up for a meal in Perth. The relationship never progressed beyond “kissing” however, she said.

She said Alexander had asked her to sell items of Adam Ant memorabilia, including signed posters, on ebay.

The court heard that she would sell them to fans and then split the proceeds with Alexander.

Ms Langlands stored the goods in her bedroom and sold a small amount, making around £40.

The court heard that after she blocked him – because he was “becoming very domineering” – Ms Langlands held onto the items and the money.

She said that Alexander turned up unannounced at her back door a few days later, when she was at home alone.

“He started shouting at me: thief, thief,” she said. “He pushed the door open and forced his way into the house.”

She said she tried to push him out and he raised his fist at her, shouting: “You want some?”

Ms Langlands said: “He eventually calmed down and told me he’d lost his job and his mum was in hospital.

“I got him outside and shut the door. I told him not to come back and I would arrange to get his stuff to him.”

She said she was left with bruised wrists and broken ribs.

Solicitor Kris Gilmartin said that his client was injured during the incident and left the house bleeding from the head.

Ms Langlands said when she tried to push him out, she cut him with a fingernail. The trial continues.
