Ovenstone targeting victory over Broughty

- Peter Rundo

Player-manager John Ovenstone hopes to collect the first Super League points of his Tayport tenure when they face close rivals Broughty Athletic today.

Although his new charges prop up the table, his side posted a moraleboosting victory away to reigning Super League holders Kelty Hearts last week in his first game in charge.

But that was in the East of Scotland Cup, with league points unquestionably the new gaffer’s priority if he wants to achieve his target of avoiding the drop.

Marc Ogg again misses out as he serves the second of a two-match ban.

The Fed, meanwhile, have lost their last two games and sit fourth from bottom, four points better off than their hosts.

Broughty boss Keith Gibson has a fully fit squad available. Missing the trip is defender Barry Myles, on-loan to North End.

Kelty will be going all out to prevent a hat-trick of home defeats when they entertain Camelon.

Having won their opening encounter on their new artificial surface against Broughty, Tam Courts’ men have lost successive matches to Musselburgh in the league and Tayport in the East of Scotland Cup.

In addition to Devon Jacobs being suspended, Hearts are without the injured Shaun Greig, but they have recalled Scott Gilfillan from Rosyth and he is in contention to start.

In their last home outing a fortnight ago, Hill of Beath toppled leaders Penicuik and they are hoping to repeat that when they entertain Bonnyrigg Rose, who are now in pole position.

Certainly they go into the game full of confidence after another win at Broughty last weekend.

Only problem is that whenever these two meet, the visitors tend to get the better of things, so Haws will be out to reverse that trend

Manager Bobby Wilson has a full squad, but there is a doubt over the fixture, with a 9.30am inspection arranged.

The Fifers have made midfielder Brian Breen and forward Lee Bryce available for transfer. All inquiries to Stuart Black on 07702 509246 or Bobby Wilson on 07595 167520.

A point at Sauchie last week stopped St Andrews United’s run of three successive league losses, and boss Phil Maguire drew encouragement from a much improved performance.

New loan signing Dale Robertson, a striker from Forfar Athletic, is added to the squad, but Lewis Elder is missing.

Premier League

Forfar West End are the latest club to try to lower the colours of undefeated leaders Jeanfield Swifts when they meet at Strathmore Park.

Cameron Clark is expected to make a delayed debut following his recent move from Forfar Athletic, while Mark Godfrey is the only West End absentee.

The only addition to Jeanfield Swifts’ squad on duty for last week’s win over Oakley is the return of player-assistant manager John Anderson as Fraser Smith is still a major doubt.

Thornton Hibs hope to return to league action for the first time in four weeks when they host second-placed Lochee United.

Hibs have Greig Renton suspended as they look to end a run of four league games without a win.

The Bluebells have re-signed midfielder Mark Fotheringham, while Mark Bannon is doubtful.

If Montrose Roselea are to maintain their unbeaten home record, they will have to be at their best against third-placed Dundonald Bluebell.

The Roselea squad will be along similar lines to the one that held Dalkeith at Broomfield Park last Saturday.

The visitors have re-signed midfielder Tommy Carr, who only left for Thornton Hibs at the end of last season, and he is added to a squad missing the services of Aiden Henry and Scott Lawrie.

Blairwood Park is the venue for an all-Fife affair with Oakley welcoming Kennoway Star Hearts.

The pair are in a group of six clubs separated by just three points at the foot of the table, so a victory will be important to both sides.

Star Hearts are without the suspended Ross Brewster.
