Nish confident rain has not led to rust

Cowdenbeath player-manager Colin Nish is hoping the recent deluge will not have brought a stop to his side’s momentum.

The Blue Brazil host Brechin City today and Nish wants to ensure his side get back to where they were before their visit to Albion Rovers was called off twice in the last week.

A flooded Coatbridge pitch mean the Central Park men were not able to build on draws with Stenhousemuir and Dunfermline as well as a win over Stranraer.

Nish is confident there will be no signs of rustiness.

Nish said: “I would have preferred us to play last Saturday or even on the Tuesday, but we have been training and keeping things ticking over.

“When the game was called off in midweek there was still enough time to get a training session organised, and the boys looked sharp in that and also on Thursday night.”

“We are ready to go and are looking forward to facing Brechin.

“They drew with league leaders Ayr last weekend and beat Forfar the week before, so it looks like they have turned a corner in terms of picking up points.

“I am confident after our recent results that we turned a similar corner a couple of weeks ago, and hopefully we can stay ahead of them. We put in decent performances in those games and I want us to get back to playing at that level straight away despite the unwelcome break.”

Recent signing Fraser Kerr remains suspended, while skipper John Armstrong, Jack Beaumont and Lewis Milne continue to be ruled out with knocks.

Brechin are looking to build on their encouraging recent form.

They got a 1-1 draw against highflying Ayr United last time out and beat Forfar before that, so it’s all about momentum for their playermanager Darren Dods.

“We need to keep it going,” said Dods.

City will still be without strike pair Dene Shields and Robert Thompson.”
