cross country: Cupar teenager achieves glory with six-year-old mare

- Melanie Scott

A dry, bright but breezy day saw good entries at the Kinnaird Cross Country at Dairsie’s Kinnaird Farm near Cupar.

There was a win in the adult 3ft class for Cupar rider Alysa Spittle, 19, with Tayvale Echo.

The six-year-old mare was initially produced by Fife international event rider Wills Oakden, winning a British Eventing novice section at Warwick Hall and Bishop Burton and finishing runner-up at Aske.

Since Alysa took over the ride they have had one BE outing, at Aske International at BE100 open level.

The six-year-old mare Echo is sired by Perthshire-based stallion Igguldon Skye Laird, a son of Jumbo, and is graded with the Scottish Sports Horse and out of the mare Alcopop.

In the 3ft junior class Beth Peat and Ballylarkin Emperor were the sole combination to jump clear to win the class, finishing their round just four seconds over the optimum time.

Ballylarkin Emperor is sired by Emperor Augustus and out of Ballylarkin Crystal.

In the adults 2ft 6’ class there were good entries so the class was split into two sections.

In section A clear rounds were at the premium, with just three riders jumping round with no faults.

Vanessa Smith and Bentley were the combination closest to the optimum time to take the honours.

In section B Tori Homer came home in front with her versatile pony Bybeck Homer.

Homer is an eight-year-old Fell pony, sired by Carrock Rowan and out of Greenholme Sophie.
