Scots come out on top at Lancashire festival

-

Scottish competitors took the top awards at the recent Festival 21 National Championships at Northcote Stud in Lancashire.

Overall supreme was Perthshire’s Lucinda Baker with her own Cam En Bear.

The Festival 21 National Championships were held over four days and judged by an all-Irish panel – Michael Lewis, Melanie Horseman and Denise Colebrooke.

They qualified for the event after taking the inhand supreme title at the Scottish Masters at Highfield of Howe EC.

Cam En Bear is a threeyear-old gelding by the TB x Hannovarian stallion Drink With Me and out of Bramvalley Stompin.

At the show they stood in-hand supreme of the first day after winning the home produced class, and again stood supreme the second day after winning the same section.

Tracey Brooks judged the final day and Lucinda was amazed to win the overall supreme of country.

“We were in shock,” she said. “The wins were all much unexpected, this was only Bear’s fifth outing.

“He was a surprise foal on a yard I was working on and have had him since weaning.

“I am currently in the process of backing him and hope to carry on his career.”

In a further boost to the Scottish exhibitors it was Fife livery yard owner Laura Henry, of Kinshaldy, Leuchars, and her four-year-old Clydesdale stallion Collessie Pride that stood reserve.

Pride has twice stood reserve for the Cawdor Cup years but last year won the Royal Highland’s male championship title.

Pride is a son of Mollinhillhead Celebrity and Sandhill Maggie Anne, and previously stood male champion at the Aberdeen Clydesdale Show, champion at Cupar Foal Show and reserve at Forfar.

As a yearling he won his classes at both the Winter Fair and Stallion Show.
