Prestwick plea by Harvie over ‘racist’ Trump
The co-convener of the Scottish Greens has branded Donald Trump an “arrogant, racist bully” and called on Nicola Sturgeon to stop him investing in Prestwick Airport.
Presidential hopeful Mr Trump, who has business interests in north- east Scotland, has been criticised for his calls to ban all Muslims from the United States.
Last week reports revealed that officials at the publicly-owned Glasgow Prestwick Airport and executives of Trump Organization have explored working together to win business and promote the “integration” of their operations. But Patrick Harvie told the First Minister she has to “cut ties” with Mr Trump, who he has also branded a “dangerous extremist”.
Ms Sturgeon said there is “no contractual relationship” between the airport and Mr Trump or his organisations. She said the airport has to operate at arms’ length from the Scottish Govenrment and added: “We are not permitted to intervene in the commercial discussions of the airport.”
A spokeswoman for Trump International Golf Links in Scotland said: “Patrick Harvie’s offensive language is disgraceful and demonstrates his gross ignorance. The man is not fit for public office.”
