High aim to turn tables in cup tie

-

In November, Dundee HSFP travelled to Troon to take on Marr and came away on the wrong end of a 28-7 scoreline.

That was in a league encounter and the pair clash again at Fullerton this weekend in the BT Cup third round.

Form indicates that a similar result could be on the cards for the Ayrshire men since, despite losing three key players in Paul Burke, Rory McGee and Conor Bickertstaff, they turned over National 1 leaders Watsonians two weeks ago by 9-8.

Last week Marr demolished Musselburgh 43-3 to go joint top of National 1 with Watsonians while High were pushed all the way by Falkirk in their BT Cup second round tie at Mayfield before they came up with a 27-19 win.

The winners of the Troon tie will host the winners of Glasgow Hawks against GHA.

Although they have a couple of games in hand, it is difficult to see Howe of Fife ending up with more than a comfortable mid-table slot in BT National 1 since they are now unlikely to challenge for promotion and are well out of the drop zone.

Their opponents when they travel to Rubislaw tomorrow are not in nearly such a comfortable position, Aberdeen Grammar Rugby only avoiding the bottom slot by a better differential.

Howe won 18-10 at Duffus Park back in October and will aim to return with a victory against a struggling Aberdeen side who have regressed alarmingly since they were undisputed top side in the city.
