ROCKTALK GIG GUIDE

-

The Dundee Acoustic Music Club (DAMC) celebrates a hugely successful first anniversary next month.

Fed up with waiting for some of their favourite acts to reach town and hoping to convert a few locals to their cause, DAMC was formed and quickly received the seal of approval not only from local music lovers but also in the form of funding from Scotland Live’s Hands Up For Trad project.

Hosted and run by a mix of musicians and enthusiasts, DAMC has quickly established a reputation among touring acts as a club they wanted to include in their tour schedule.

Acts have come from far and wide in the first year – from California (Front Country); Carolina (Woody Pines); Newcastle (The New Rope String Band); Edinburgh (Jellyman’s Daughter and Dallahan); Richmond, Virginia (The Hot Seats); Dublin and Bilbao (Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies) and the year ended on a high with a preChristmas sell-out gig for Scotland’s own Karine Polwart.

Coming up next on Sunday are The Horsenecks from Portland, Oregon, in the Roseangle Arts Cafe, then to the Newport on March 9 comes the highly regarded singer, songwriter and much sought after guitar flat picker Vera Van Heeringen.

More great acts are planned for later this year, including American fiddler Bruce Molsky (The Transatlantic Sessions) and Andy Irvine, a founding member of Irish Band of Planxty.

Look out for upcoming gigs on DAMC’s Facebook page and at www.dundeeacoustic.scot
