This week’s Schoolmast­er contains a supplement showing the activities of members of the teaching profession in connection with the war. It appears that there are 11,400 men teachers serving with the forces and 9,000 have attested under the Derby scheme. In addition there are 147 serving with the naval forces and 236 women acting as nurses. Amongst the casualty list 232 have been killed, 118 wounded and nine are missing. Teachers at the front have already gained five Victoria Crosses.
