Thirty-eight West Fife miners had a remarkable escape from serious injury when part of an underground train of mine cars, taking more than 150 men to the pit face at Comrie Colliery, became derailed. The accident happened when the train of 14 cars, taking the men to the North Mine, had almost reached its station after a journey of over a mile underground. The men in the open cars were thrown around like ninepins. Eight men were taken to hospital and the remainder treated for shock.
