Nish happy with win but admits it was ‘difficult’

-

Colin Nish hailed Cowdenbeath’s first league win of 2016 – but admitted his team achieved it the hard way.

Up 2-0 against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview, Cow den be a th were pegged to 2-2 after a quick fire Colin McMen am in double before Lewis Milne hit the winner.

“We made it difficult for ourselves but I always felt that we could win it,” said the Cowden boss.

“I thought that we played really-well– the boys gave us everything we asked for before the game.

“We played a different way. For the last month or so I have said to them I will keep trying things to get the right formula and today it worked. I thought the boys were excellent and deserved the win.”

Substitute Ross Caldwell scored the opening goal in the 51st minute after replacing the injured Greig Spence.

Nish said: “Ross was really unlucky not to be playing but when you are only playing with one central striker and Greig Spence is Greig Spence and he scores goals it is unfortunate forRosco.Wh en he came on though he was brilliant.”

The Central Park outfit extended their lead in the 55th minute through a Declan Hughes strike after a well-weighted pass by Dean Brett.

The Warriors reduced the lead in the 59th minute when McMenamin tucked home after Al in Roman had saved a Mark Gilhaney strike and Kieran Millar hit the bar with the rebound.

Cowdenbeath continued to counter attack but were caught out on the hour when McMenamin scored his second with a deft glancing header.

The visitors emerged victorious though, clinching the three points thanks to a 78 th minute strike from the edge of the box from Milne.
