Dods eyes winning run as City go seven behind

-

Darren Dods has called on his Brechin City side to embark on a winning run and preserve their League One status.

The Glebe Park side are now seven points adrift at the foot of the table after former City striker Rory McAllister played a starring role in Peterhead’s 4-1 romp at Balmoor on Saturday.

“There’s 10 games to go but we can’t go on relying on other teams to keep losing,” said Dods.

“We have to get points. Teams tend to go on winning runs but we have never managed that and we need to start doing that.”

Jim McInally’s side took the game to Brechin from the kick off and McAllister head flicked over from a Kevin Dzierzawski corner kick inside the first two minutes.

The opener came in the 25th minute and was a simple goal, Shane Sutherland unselfishly squaring the ball to McAllister to side foot home from eight yards.

That’s the way it remained until virtually on the half-time whistle when a Blue Toon fre- kick broke to McAllister and a curved home a glorious shot from 20 yards.

Brechin, the only side to defeat Peterhead on home soil this season, failed to pose any sort of threat and there seemed no chance of repeating the shock victory.

But they got themselves back in the match when new loan signing Liam Watt made it 2-1 with a low shot into the bottom corner after 73 minutes.

The home side regained their two-goal lead with 15 minutes remaining, McAllister netting his hat-trick with a classy chip before Sutherland raced clear to calmly add a fourth in the final minute.
