Gordon breaks Scottish record in Sheffield
Perth-born athlete Anna Gordon broke her Scottish under-20 pole vaultrecordattheUKIndoorChampionshipsin Sheffieldyesterday.
Her clearance landed the former Oakbank Primary and Perth High Schoolpupilwithabronzemedal.
Gordon, a student at Cardiff Met University and a member of Pitreave AC, said: “My coach has beenincredible. Ican’tfaultthework we’redoinginCardiff.
“Thiswasagreatcompetitionand agreatresult.”
Meanwhile, Lynsey Sharp lost out over 800m at the championships, which double up as the GB trial for next month’s World Indoor ChampionshipsinPortland, Oregon.
Looking set for victory with 50m to go, Sharp tied up dramatically along the run-in as Adelle Tracey (Guilford) and Leah Barrow (Windsor SE) overhauled the Commonwealth Games silver medallist.
Sharp will now rely on her recent Scottish indoor record to sway the GBselectors.
In a Scottish one-two, Stephanie Twell (Aldershot Farnham & Dist.) took the 3,000m title with Jo Moultrie(VPGlasgow) second.
Madeleine Murray (Edinburgh AC) finished third in the women’s 1,500m, which was won by Oxford city’sHannahEngland.
Defending 800m champion Guy Learmonth (Lasswade) was third behind Jamie Webb (Liverpool) and SpencerThomas(Brighton).
A top-class women’s 60m hurdles final saw Tiffany Porter (Woodford Green) book her ticket on the plane to Portland, while James Dasaolu(Croydon) wonthe60mand Asha Philip (Newham & Essex Beagles) pipped British 100m and 200m champ Dina Asher-Smith (Blackheath & Bromley) in the women’s60m.
