Campbell confirms Gayfield job interest

Dick Campbell has confirmed his interest in becoming the next manager of Arbroath.

The former Forfar and Brechin City boss is understood to be one of the contenders for the job of replacing Todd Lumsden, who was sacked after Saturday’s defeat by Stirling Albion.

Campbell has been out of work since he was let go by Forfar in December and is not yet ready to hang up his bunnet.

“I was disappointed when I had to leave Forfar as I still believe I have a lot of football still in me,” Campbell said.

“I have kept a low profile since then as I do not think it is right to talk about clubs when a manager is in place.”

Campbell added: “Arbroath need a lift as they face a tough away game at Berwick after a few games without a win.

“They then have another tough game with East Stirling and winning those two games could change the outlook of their season.

“It is a job that would be of interest to me but it would also interest a lot of other people as well.”

Goalkeeping coach Mike Cargill is in charge for tonight’s long trip to Berwick.

Chairman John Christison said: “We felt that the time to make a change was right as we face two really crucial games this week. Mike knows the club well and he will hold the reins while we look to get the right person in.

“This is a crucial appointment at a crucial time.”

Cargill has Ricky Little available after suspension, but Craig Johnstone and David Gold are still out.
