Police seek youth volunteers to engage with local teenagers
Police Scotland is to recruit teenage volunteers to help engage with young people in Perth.
The Scottish force is seeking applications from youngsters aged between 13 and 16 for the scheme.
The Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) programme aims to strengthen the relationship with the police and young people, breaking down barriers and promoting positive role models.
They promote a practical way for young people to understand policing by supporting the police in their local area through volunteering.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “As part of this, young people are given a chance for their voice to be heard and encouraged to promote good citizenship.”
Each PSYV group is coordinated by a police officer who, in most cases, will carry out this role secondary to their full-time position which can vary from school-based officer to community officer or community safety.
The coordinator is supported by a team of adult volunteers who come from all walks of life, including teachers, special constables, support workers, veterinary assistants and communication workers.
PSYV have volunteered at events across Scotland, including the Commonwealth Games, T in The Park, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and local charity runs.
More information can be obtained by visiting the Police Scotland website, the PSYV Facebook page and the PSYV YouTube channel.
Applications can be obtained by emailing the group coordinator PC Scott Robertson at psyvperth@gmail.com.
