Nuisance calls a scourge of modern life in the UK

survey: 33% of Brits see red once a day

Nuisance calls from injury lawyers and PPI claims companies have topped the chart of the most irritating part of modern British life, a survey has found.

Pollsters asked 2,000 adults which parts of 21st Century life caused the most stress, with 77% citing nuisance calls.

In second place was also another telephone-related annoyance with 67% of those surveyed stating that being kept on hold was irritating.

Modern technology is proving too stressful for some, with 41% of those polled becoming annoyed at having no internet connection, 33% finding those who boast on social media frustratin­g, and 29% disliking “selfies”.

The survey, conducted by Tandem Bank, listed the top worst nuisance offenders and found that a third of British people see red at least once a day. The top 10 irritation­s were: 1 Nuisance calls (PPI, accident/injury lawyers, and other similar calls) 77%. 2 Being kept on hold 67%. 3 Dog mess fouling in public 57%. 4 Unexpected fees and charges 49%. 5 Unclear pricing and misleading offers 42%. 6 Having no internet connection 41%. 7 Litter louts 39%. 8 Call centre confusion (being passed around different teams) 38%.

9 Companies offering best deals to new customers and ignoring loyal customers 38%.

10 Noise pollution (including noisy neighbours) 37%.
