Fed secure valuable point

SUPER LEAGUE: Keeper crisis overcome in 2-2 draw at Sauchie

- PeTer rundo

Broughty Athletic failed to make if five wins on the trot but returned from Sauchie with an invaluable point after sharing four goals.

Both their regular keepers Iain Ross and John Sinclair were forced to pull out, leaving boss Keith Gibson scrambling around for a replacement, eventually drafting an amateur keeper who played his part in securing a point.

The hosts took the lead through Iain Diack after three minutes, but the Fed replied with Bastien Wilbaut equalising midway through the opening period.

Kevin Buchan then gave the Fed the lead three minutes after the restart but were denied victory by Alan Comrie’s counter on the hour mark.

Hill of Beath also shared four goals at home to Musselburgh.

The home side took the lead through Calum Adamson after quarter of an hour but Musselburgh hit back with two early second half goals. Sean Jamieson was on target after 52 minutes and Jack Wright netted eight minutes later.

The visitors had Alex Christie redcarded before Scott McCrindle stuck an equaliser for Haws from the edge of the box 10 minutes from time. The Lothian side finished the game with nine men after Scott Swaney was sent off.

Kelty’s hopes of retaining their title suffered a blow when they lost 3-1 at Linlithgow Rose.

The defeat leaves them 17 off the pace, albeit with four games in hand.

Colin Leiper gave Rose the lead on eight minutes and Blair Batchelor doubled it after 58 minutes.

Kevin Kelbie added the third with 20 minutes left and Calum Smith hit Hearts’ consolation 10 minutes later.

A 3-1 defeat at Broxburn continued Carnoustie’s slide towards the drop zone, because the Gowfers have now only taken one point from their last four league outings.

They got off to a great start with Marc Scott scoring the opener after 15 minutes. Two Kieran Anderson goals, one from a penalty in the space of three minutes, turned things round, however, and the hosts added a third late on.

Defeats for north-east Fife’s two struggling outfits, St Andrews and Tayport, were not unexpected given they were away to the leading pair and keeps them in the bottom three.

But Tayport will be the happier of the two, only losing 2-1 at leaders Bonnyrigg.

The damage was done in the first half when Ross Archibald gave the home side the lead on seven minutes and Keiran McGachie added a second to make it an uphill struggle.

A more determined Tayport came out in the second half but chances were few and far between.

However, with 12 minutes left, Alan Tulleth gave Port a lifeline and although it made for a nervy last few minutes for Rose, they held on.

St Andrews crashed to another heavy defeat, going down 5-1 at Bo’ness United.

The home side were already three up thanks to a Stuart Hunter double and a Marty Wright counter before Paddy Deane pulled one back.

Fraser Keast’s early second-half brace killed off struggling Saints.
