Hands up anyone who correctly predicted the astonishing score from Dens on Saturday.

No? Well, neither did I. In fact, I had a feeling beforehand that the game would end in a draw.

Instead, Dundee put five goals past Ross County to secure all three points and send them back into the top six, above the Staggies on goal difference.

Dundee did concede two poor counters from a defensive point of view, but it would be churlish to dwell on the negatives after a result and display bursting with positives.

Everybody is well aware of the attacking threat the Dark Blues possess in Kane Hemmings, Rory Loy and Greg Stewart, but special mention must also go to the “unsung heroes”.

Cammy Kerr, who signed a new extended deal with the club last week, was once again impressive down the right, while skipper for the day Paul McGowan put in a tireless shift in the midfield alongside Nick Ross.

Next up for the Dark Blues is the stiffest test possible in the shape of a Celtic outfit fresh from their own 3-1 win over Hearts at Saturday lunchtime.

Paul Hartley’s side drew the last time the teams met at Parkhead. But if Dundee take anything from tomorrow night’s game, it will undoubtedly be a bonus.

Instead, their top six ambitions will probably be dashed or realised when they travel to Hamilton next Saturday. Certainly, if they can repeat the attacking verve they displayed against County, they should be celebrating the latter.
