Fears for city pensioner, 70, now missing for six weeks

Friends and family have spoken of their concerns for a missing Perth pensioner.

Robert McLaren, 70, was last seen on February 20, but despite various police searches he has not been seen since. Yesterday, Isabella Johnstone, Mr McLaren’s sister, said she had no idea where her brother was.

“It’s been too long now,” she said. “I know that the police are doing all they can to find my brother.”

Nancy Spence, who co-runs the Fourty Four bar in Perth – where Mr McLaren was a regular – said that he was missed by everyone there.

“Robert is a lovely man and everyone in the pub is hoping and praying that he is found soon,” she said.

“Obviously as time goes by there is more and more concern. We just wish he would walk in here one day soon.”

Other regulars said they were now beginning to fear the worst.

One man said: “The police have spoken to some of us but we have no idea what has happened to him. We are fearing the worst but hopefully he will turn up OK.”

He added that Mr McLaren was known locally as Rangers Bob due to his love of the Glasgow football club.

Mr McLaren was last seen at the Rannoch Road shops, Perth, at 8.08am on Saturday February 20. He was wearing a black donkey jacket, a beige baseball cap with a white motif, blue jeans or trousers and brown shoes.

He is 5ft 7in, of large build, has a pale complexion, and a balding head with short grey hair around the sides.

Police yesterday confirmed they are continuing inquiries into his disappearance.
