Excellent fishing at Rescobie Loch

-

Fishing at Rescobie Loch has been excellent from the start of the season and shows no sign of letting up, with the fish being caught all over,

writes Neil Anderson.

There have been some good overwintered brown trout caught.

The fish of the month competition for March was won by Sandy Forgan with a brown trout of 7lb 8oz.

This month’s leader so far is B Cox with a brown trout of 5lb 12 – unfortunately for the angler who caught an 11lb 4 brown trout but is not a member of the RLDA so does not qualify.

On March 26 the RLDA had its first competition. The total catch from 16 rods was 42 rainbows for 84lb and 23 browns for 46lb. The winner was Alan Wood and second was Colin Nicoll.

CARLOGIE DAM The fishing at Carlogie Dam has been excellent for the past couple of weeks.

The fish are just under the surface and taking dries off the top. A floating line with a dry and a couple of buzzers is working well.

The opening hours of 8am-8pm this month do not include the weekends. On Saturdays the fishery closes at 5pm, and on a Sunday it does not open until 9am.

LEDYATT FISHERY Ledyatt Fishery goes from strength to strength. Fishing has been fantastic.

On Monday Ronnie Lusher netted an 8lb rainbow on a diawl bach size 12.

James Smith has landed 23 this week so far on catch and release.

Robert Kippen, on his first cast of the day, managed an 11lb trout on buzzer. Grant Burnett had a personal best of 12lb 2 Rainbow on diawl bach.

The Angling for Youth Development visited the loch on Saturday. The kids learned lots and caught several fish aswell.

See the fishery website at www.ledyatt.com for directions and prices.

FORBES OF KINGENNIE The ponds have generally fished well. The lowest returns have usually coincided with cold easterly winds.

When water conditions have been ideal, the Boathouse Pool has fished extremely well to those adopting a roving approach.

Small flies have been the key to success, with buzzers and diawl bachs the most productive.

Small lures have also taken a reasonable number of fish.

Mr. Williamson took two fish for 6lb and released a further 10, including a well-conditioned rainbow estimated at 8lb.

Chris Watson and Liam Kirk returned 14 fish each.

Burnside Pool was rather more moody but there were still some excellent catches.

Mr Porteous landed a fine rainbow weighing 12lb 14.

Catches are climbing steadily on the Bankside Pool.

Ross/Taylor took seven fish for 16lb and returned one.

Woodside Pool, the any legal method pond, had some highly productive spells along with some quieter ones.

Among the best returns were Mr Lorimer with seven fish for 13lb.
