One neighbour said someone had pulled Mr MacDonald from the property before another man ran off down the street.

The neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said: “I was outside having a cigarette. There was a guy walking along the street. He came into my block and shouted for another man. He then walked across the road and into the house.

“We could hear screams of ‘get him off me’ and ‘he’s going to kill me’.”

“Apparently a lad, or a couple of lads, ran down the lane across from the flat. “As a neighbour he’s pretty quiet. “He’s been here two-and-a-half years and I’ve never had any bother with him.”
