Survival in our own hands: Dods

-

Brechin City have received a massive psychological boost by coming off the bottom of League One ahead of the penultimate round of matches.

The Glebe Park side’s fabulous 5-1 hammering of Peterhead last weekend saw them jump over Angus rivals Forfar.

They now sit two points better off than the Loons ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Stranraer, with a trip to Station Park to come next weekend.

They are also just one point behind third-bottom Stenhousemuir and three adrift of Cowdenbeath.

City have deserved the now excellent chance they have given themselves of staying up, winning six of their last eight matches going back to the start of last month.

Ahead of hosting the Blues at the Glebe, Brechin boss Darren Dods, who will have a full squad from which to choose, said: “We are certainly going in the right direction.

“Survival is in our own hands now. Some people have said we have hit form at the right time but I would have preferred it to have happened earlier to make my job easier!

“Seriously, though, we have won six of our last eight games and we would have been up at the top of the league had we managed those kind of results all season.

“It has given us momentum going into the last couple of games. It is obviously a great psychological boost to get off the bottom of the league but we have done that once or twice before this season only to go bottom again.

“We can’t let that happen this time so that’s our goal.”

Dods will look to hat-trick hero Robert Thomson to shoot down Stranraer after hitting Peterhead for three last Saturday.

The City boss said: “Robert has done really well for us and is enjoying being played through the middle. Scoring goals is clearly boosting his confidence.

“If we continue to create chances then he can be a big player for us in these last two league matches.”
