TARFSIDE. Anne Taylor welcomed members and federation office-bearers Carol Steele and Mary Wyllie to a Pokeno night. Competition: savoury nibbles – 1 Sharon Greasley, 2 Muriel McIntosh.
CARMYLLIE. President Nan Reid introduced Northmuir WRI choir who entertained. Competitions: Easter biscuits – 1 Nan Reid, 2 Liz Nicol, 3 Ann Martin; favourite necklace – 1 Edith Douglas, 2 Ann Martin. Mrs Reid proposed the vote of thanks.
AIRLIE. Members were joined by friends from Westmuir, Eassie and Nevay and Kilry and were all entertained by Cortachy Rural. KILMANY. President Mrs Trail welcomed members and visitors from Cameron, who demonstrated baking, flower arranging, poetry, stories book binding and gave a quiz. Competitions: fruit scones – 1 Mrs V Hansen, 2 Mrs Christie; fun charm – Mrs Cathie Orr; flower of the month – Mrs Sheila Simmers. CROSSFORD. President Mrs B Stratton welcome three new members and Mrs Stratton gave a card making demonstration. Vice-president Mrs M Clark proposed the vote of thanks.
FALKLAND. President Mrs I Robertson welcomed members and Pat Wells gave a talk on her life in America. Competitions: tray bake – 1 M Brunton, 2 E Webster, 3 I McBain; flower of the month – 1 T Kilbane, 2 P Kilbane, 3 J Williamson. MURTHLY. The institute celebrated its 95the birthday and members celebrated with listening to some Scottish music with the Gateway Players. KIRKCALDY.
President Jeanette Suttie introduced Mr Gemmel who entertained with songs
and stories. Competitions: three pieces of shortbread – 1 B Shields, 2 J Suttie, 3 M Smart; Scottish keepsake – 1 B Shields, 2 M Smart, 3 E Keltie; flower of the month – M Finlay. BUTTERSTONE. Speaker Jackie Vivianni, who specialises in celebration cakes, and her daughter Katie, demonstrated making figures from fondant icing. Competition: small spring posy – 1 Iona O’Connor, 2 Marilyn Hale, 3 (equal) Annie Marshall and Fiona Bruges.
PITCAIRNGREEN. Betty Murchie demonstrated economical cooking both sweet and savoury and Mary McGraw showed how to make cards and decorate gift bags and the members were encouraged to participate in both activities. Competitions: three cheese straws – 1 Helen Coventry, 2 Louise Duncan; favourite sherry glass – 1 Louise Duncan, 2 Christine Milne, 3 Margaret MacKinnon.
ALDBAR. President Mrs Valona Gouck welcomed visitors from Cortachy WRI who provided a very enjoyable and interesting programme of entertainment. This included floral art, a sewing demonstration, a recipe and tasting, poems and jokes, a sketch , a quiz and a talk about Icelandic wool and knitting. The hostesses were Miss Isobel Findlay, Mrs Ethel Markowski, Mrs Doris Watt and Mrs Nancy Craig. Competitions: Easter card – 1 Miss I Findlay, 2 Mrs I McLaren; flower of the month – 1 Miss I Findlay, 2 Mrs I McLaren.
KINGHORN. Betty Stratton, Fife Federation chairman, showed us her skills in sugarcraft followed by a short informative talk on Scottish Women’s Institutes. Members celebrated the Queen’s birthday with mini Victoria sponges decorated with a picture of Her Majesty. Competitions: knitted tea cosy – 1 Helen Duncan, 2 Janette Morrison, 3 Olive Douglas; flower of the month – Kay Adam. MEMUS AND FERN. President Elsie Nicoll introduced Lindsay Shaw who gave a talk on dementia. Lavina Harvey gave the vote of thanks.
