Dods has no fears as he takes on old pal Ironman

-

Brechin City manager Darren Dods will be coming up against an old St Johnstone team-mate in the Betfred Cup today.

Elgin City are the Glebe Park side’s opponents this afternoon, with Jim Weir back in the dugout after his gruelling charity Ironman challenge in Bolton last weekend.

Completing a two-and-a-halfmile open water swim, a 112-mile cycle, and then a full marathon has earned Weir Dods’ admiration.

But you won’t find the Brechin player-boss signing up for one anytime soon.

“I think I’d need to improve my swimming a bit,” Dods joked.

“And anyway, I’m still playing so that rules me out!

“It was a great effort by Jim. I saw him at a referees’ meeting we were at a few days ago and he was telling me all about it.

“Jim had his problems with injuries when we were at Saints but he was always a really fit boy.”

Dods added: “This will be a tough game. Elgin don’t lose many games on their own ground.

“It’s only our second game in the cup and it’s one we really want to win.”

Dods may yet add to his squad but he isn’t in a rush.

“I’ll probably wait until the end of August and see if we need to look at a loan,” he said.

“If everybody is fit we’ll be sitting at 18.”
