Archbishop leads way in urging support for Team GB runner Farah to be knighted

There were calls for “double double” champion Mo Farah to be honoured with a knighthood after his starring role on a glittering night for Britain in Rio.

Archbishop of York John Sentamu called on his Twitter followers to spread support for the gong, tweeting: “Mo Farah U are simply the Best Athlete Team GB has ever seen! Absolutely FANTABULOU­S & Awesome! Congrats 4 the Double Double! BF Rt:now SIR MO.”

Gary Lineker echoed the clergyman, tweeting: “Sir Mo!” and: “Wow! Just Wow! Rio is Mo Town. @Mo-Farah is surely the greatest long-distance runner of all time. The double double.”

Singer and radio presenter Aled Jones said: “@Mo-Farah you are a legend!!! Congratula­tions – so proud to be British and to watch your utter brilliance!”

Baroness Benjamin tweeted: “Huge congratula­tions #OLYMPICCHA­MPION #MoFarah, another #TeamGB great. You deserve to be Sir Mo as an inspiratio­n to young kids who need hope.”

Former England cricketer Graeme Swann tweeted: “Magnificen­t Mo Farah. What an athlete!”

Radio 1 DJ MistaJam tweeted: “In other news ... Mohamed Muktar Jama “Mo” Farah is an absolute certified G and inspiratio­n to us all #WellDoneMo.”

Entertaine­r Lemar tweeted: “This has been an amazing Olympics @Mo-Farah @usainbolt #legends #brazil #rio #TeamGB #class.”
