Bridge of Earn blooms for summer show

Organisers pleased with amount of entries as numbers up on last year

A top Tayside summer flower show boasted a bumper crop of entries at the weekend.

The Royal Horticultu­ral Society’s annual Perthshire event was held in the Institute, Bridge of Earn, on Friday and Saturday.

Organisers hailed the show a “great success” and said there were increased entries across most classes.

Winners were presented with their prizes by the society’s retiring vice-president Lesley Murison.

The results were: Royal Horticultu­ral Society Banksian Medal, exhibitor with the most points in Classes 1-115 (cut flowers, pot plants, fruit and vegetables) – Ian Mollison. The Victory Challenge Cup, awarded to the most outstandin­g exhibit in cut flowers, pot plants or hanging containers sections, Classes 1-70 – Norman Taylor. Corporatio­n of City of Perth Centenary Cup, most outstandin­g exhibit in fruit and vegetable classes 71-115 – Stan MacFarlane. The Perth Merchants Challenge Trophy, most first prizes in show – Don Elder. Sweet Peas Glencarse Challenge Bowl, Winner Class 1 – Don Elder. National Sweet Pea Society Medal and Certificat­e, best exhibit – Don Elder. Annuals AW Brown Silver Challenge Cup, Winner Class 29 – Keith Brand. Dahlias The Robb Dahlia Challenge Shield, winner Class 11 – Norman Veitch. National Dahlia Society Silver Challenge Medal, best exhibit in section – Norman Veitch.
