Buoyant Hearts lead Fife rivals by five points

Kelty’s huge advantage in Super League

- PeTer rundo

Fife rules the roost at the top of the table with Kelty Hearts and Hill of Beath occupying first and second places.

However, even with just five games played, Kelty Hearts – the only team with a 100% record – have a five-point advantage on their county rivals.

Fauldhouse United were Tam Courts’ side’s latest victims, but they had to come from behind before running out 3-1 winners.

They weren’t trailing long though with Brian Ritchie equalising. Craig Thomson put Hearts ahead and Nelly McCabe sealed victory with the third.

Hill of Beath banked their first home win with a 3-0 victory over Newtongrange Star.

Scott McCrindle broke the deadlock early in the second half and two goals in the last 10 minutes completely eclipsed Star. The second was an own goal by Richardson with Craig McGuire getting the third five minutes from time.

For the rest of Courier Country’s topflight outfits, it was a disastrous afternoon with all five suffering heavy defeats.

Jeanfield Swifts were outclassed by Bo’ness at Riverside Stadium.

In addition to conceding five without reply, the Perth side finished the game with 10 men after Chris Scott was redcarded when they were already three down.

On target for the visitors were Roddy MacLennan with a double, Ross Philp, Nicky Walker and Fraser Keast.

There was disappointment too for Dundonald Bluebell who, having gone in at the break two behind at home to Penicuik, managed to draw level, only to eventually slump to a 5-2 defeat.

Penicuik got off to a flier with Aaron Somerville netting after just two minutes.

Against the run of play, Cuikie doubled their lead thanks to Keith Lough’s glancing header after 33 minutes.

On 54 minutes Paul Quinn pulled one back from close range and 10 minutes later Dundonald deservedly drew level from a Scott Lawrie free-kick.

However, Stephen Scott put the visitors ahead and goals from Darrell Young and Somerville’s second only rubbed salt in home wounds.

Sadly, and to add to Bluebell woes, Lawrie sustained a bad knee injury and had to be stretchered off.

Broughty Athletic crashed 4-0 away to champions Bonnyrigg Rose, Lochee United had a man sent off as they lost 4-1 at Linlithgow, and Carnoustie are bottom of the table after losing 6-1 to a rampant Broxburn Athletic.
