St Andrews extend winning run

-

St Andrews boss Ian Barrett was doubly delighted as his side stretched their run to four straight wins after their 2-1 success at Bathgate Thistle.

He said: “It was great to keep the run going but the performance was much improved with the lads getting to know each other.”

Sam Buchan put Saints ahead after 29 minutes and Barry Sibanda added the second on the hour-mark.

A Darren Dalrymple header reduced the leeway, but Saints held on and stay second in the table.

Kennoway Star Hearts were impressive and deserved 2-0 winners at Dalkeith Thistle.

They could even afford the luxury of a Kieran Band penalty being saved just before half-time, but Band had already put them ahead after 14 minutes.

A second goal from Kyle Wilson sealed their first win on the road.

Happier times for Tayport as they secured back-to-back home wins after defeating Whitburn 3-1, which was scant reward for their domination.

A fine finish by Dale Reid after 32 minutes set Port on their way and shortly before the hour-mark Liam Ross claimed his first goal for the home side.

On 75 minutes, Burnie were handed what might have been an unlikely lifeline, Daniel Sanchez conceding a penalty which Martin Russell converted.

Port soon restored their two-goal lead, however, thanks to a well-taken goal by Reid.

Glenrothes opened their points account with a 2-1 win over Haddington at Warout.

Stephen Forbes’ free-kick had them in front two minutes from the interval and John Martin doubled their advantage on 56 minutes.

Craig Wojtowycz pulled one back with just over 20 minutes left, but the Glens held on for a victory that lifts them off the bottom.

Violet lost 3-2 to Tranent at Glenesk to leave them propping up the table, while Forfar West End lost 1-0 at home to Arniston Rangers and Downfield were beaten 3-1 by leaders Sauchie.
