Feelings of the deepest regret have been occasioned in the Kinloch Rannoch district by an intimation from the War Office that Lietenant W. Urquhart, Black Watch, was killed in action on the 16th. Lt. Urquhart, who was ordained parish minister of Kinloch Rannoch in 1913, was a native of Aberdeenshire. Though refused leave of absence by the Presbytery on the first asking, Mr Urquhart was subsequently released for military duties and became a private in the Royal Scots in 1915.

Three people were taken to hospital yesterday evening after a carlorry collision at the Greendykes-Broughty Ferry Road junction in Dundee. This was only one of four crashes in just over an hour on city streets. Eight cars, a lorry and a bus were involved in incidents from Perth Road to West Ferry. Greasy roads followed heavy rain showers. Ian Mitchell (19), Allan Mitchell (17) and Brian McIntosh (16), all Longforgan, were taken to the Royal Infirmary, but only Ian was detained.

A 10-foot high Pictish carved stone which stood in the village square at Fowlis Wester, near Crieff, was yesterday moved into the nearby Parish Kirk. The red sandstone cross-slab, weighing over a ton and a half, was removed to protect it from erosion and was replaced later with a replica. Historic Scotland, which is responsible for the stone, decided to move it into the cover of the church. The weather had begun to chip away intricate etchings on both faces of the stone, which could have disappeared.

Academics said the Baby Boomer generation represent an ever-increasing population of older people drinking at levels that pose a risk to their health. Their research found unsafe drinkers were more likely to be male, younger and have higher socio-economic status. Men were more likely to be unsafe drinkers than women.
