Frandy Fishery still offering good sport

FRANDY FISHERY

is still producing some excellent catches.

Bob Dick and Geoff Hemmings (Kinross) kept 10 fish weighing 20lb 8oz, Ian Gibson and Jock McKenzie (Edinburgh) had six for 14lb and released two more; Jamie and Douglas Ralfs (Dunning), four for 14lb; father and son David and David Mateer (Inverness) kept five weighing 12lb and released a further six; Jim Watson and Dave Gonsales (Auchtermuc­hty) had 10 fish weighing 19lb and released a further 11.

George Rose and Gary Malloy (Scone) took 10 fish weighing 20lb 8oz and released a further 14; Donald McPherson (Crieff), two weighing 6lb and released seven; Tom Melville and Jim Galloway (Blairgowri­e) 10 fish for 23lb and released 12; Bill Ramage (Alva) retained four for 8lb and released eight; Alan Armstrong and Alan Graham (Glen Devon) took 10 for 21lb.

On the club front RAF Northern League kept 40 fish weighing 83lb and released another seven; Phoenix AC, 13 weighing 28lb 7oz and released six; SSEB HQ AC kept 16 fish for 35lb 5oz; Last Cast AC took 13 fish weighing 23lb 10oz.

Rainbow Warriors AC, 39 fish, 80lb 5oz and released a further 37; Heriots AC, 10 for 23lb and released 26; Perth RASC took 26 fish, 49lb 10oz.

The top taking flies last week included the daddy longlegs, Kate Maclaren, bibio hopper, black hopper, sedge muddler and cormorant.

Friday saw the first semi-final of the Scottish Club Championsh­ips at

LAKE OF MENTEITH.

Three previous winners were included in the 19 three-man teams.

At the end of the match 57 anglers had netted 303 trout with 193 released.

The competitio­n is fished to a two-fish kill, then catch and release with a weight of 2lb being awarded for each returned trout.

A lovely rainbow was weighed in at 8lb 0.6 caught by Alan Martin of Tartan Tyers team (capped at 4lb).

Top team was Menteith Ospreys’ Ronnie Gilbert, Peter Auchterlon­ie and George Whyte, who caught 27 trout for 53lb 14.8oz.

Runners up were Change A team of Kevin McCabe, Jock Kettles and Andy Dunn with 26 trout for 53lb 10.8oz.

The other teams qualifying for the final at Lake of Menteith on Friday September 30 were: Soldier Palmers, 22 trout, 44lb 11oz; Rainbow Warriors, 21, 43lb 6oz; Househillm­uir, 21, 40lb 13oz; RASC Perth, 19, 39lb 3oz; Balfron Piscatoria­l; 18, 36lb 7oz; Granite City, 17, 36lb 2oz; Tweed Valley Tanglers, 17, 33lb 13oz; Crown FF, 14, 31lb 6oz.

The second semi-final will be held on Friday and features 21 teams.

LINTRATHEN LOCH

has been recently restocked and continues to fish well.

Totals over the past two weeks are: 281 fish taken at 638lb 3oz with more than 80 returned.

Recent results include: Leslie & Glenrothes AC, 34 fish for 77lb 10oz with six returned (best of the day went to N Duff with 5lb 2oz and R Houghton with 4lb 10oz); Perth Rotary AC took 10 fish for 20lb 13oz; Newtyle and Meigle AC, 15 fish for 32lb 4oz.
