Man dies after fall from Kirkcaldy tower block
Police investigating after incident that has left community in shock
Police are investigating after a man plunged to his death from the window of a 10th-storey flat.
The tragedy at Ravenscraig flats in Kirkcaldy yesterday morning prompted a major emergency response, shocking residents in the normally peaceful neighbourhood.
One woman said she was utterly shocked and added: “It’s such a shame.
“All I know is it’s a young man who died. The caretaker told me this morning.
“There were five or six police vans here when I got up. I never heard a thing.”
It is thought the man – who has not been named – had lived in the tower block for less than a year.
Officers cordoned off one side of the southernmost block – one of three identical 14-storey buildings in the Pathhead area – as they carried out their investigations.
Paramedics were also on the scene, directly below an open 10th-floor window.
A tarpaulin could be seen stretched over the grey tarmac.
Councillor Lawrence Brown said he was saddened to hear of the incident, the kind of which he described as very rare in the area.
“The guy had only been in the flat for a few months,” he said.
“I’m so sorry to hear of something like this happening to someone. “My heart goes out to his family.” The mixture of council and privatelyowned flats near the ruined 15th Century Ravenscraig Castle overlook the Firth of Forth and are a prominent Kirkcaldy landmark.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Kirkcaldy can confirm that a man has died after falling from a 10th floor window at Ravenscraig.
“The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday August 24. Inquires are ongoing into the full circumstances.”
