Dundee woman to pass on her skills to youngsters in orphanage in Delhi

A Dundee hair stylist will share her skills in an Indian orphanage to help break the poverty cycle.

Cat Hood, who works in Perth Road’s Charlie Taylor Hair & Beauty, will be in one of Dehli’s most deprived orphanages to teach young people key hairdressing skills.

Joined by a team of international hairdressers, Cat is hoping the 30 youngsters she teaches will use the new knowledge to jump-start their own careers.

She said: “I’ve received such amazing support from clients, friends and family over the past few months, helping me raise more than £2,000 for the orphanage.

“The money means I can help these young people, financially and socially, by giving them a start in a career that I love.

“Many of the children in the orphanage face a life of poverty and unemployment without family to help them, but the scheme set up by Schwarzkopf haircare manufacturer has helped many move on to a promising career.”

She has packed a suitcase full of Dundonian and Scottish treats to show the young people some of the city’s culture during her trip.

She added: “I wanted to take them a little bit of Scotland to introduce them to my country and my city, so they can understand what the Scots are like, and how generous people can be.”

Cat, who earlier this year along with colleague Lewis Scrimgeour, took first place for Most Creative Colour in Schwarzkopf’s Inspire Live awards, was handpicked by the haircare company to take part in its Shaping Futures initiative.

She leaves for the SOS Village in Dehli this weekend.
