Police seek owners of cows found in Angus
Farmers urged to check their livestock after animals found at farm near Forfar may have been stolen
Police have asked farmers to check their livestock after two valuable cows were found in Angus.
Officers are trying to trace the owners of two red Limousin-cross heiffers, which may have been stolen from a farm in the area.
The cows were found at a farm on the outskirts of Forfar, where they are being cared for while police investigate.
Sergeant Grace Morrison, the Angus community sergeant who is leading the inquiry, said: “We are asking farmers across Scotland to check their livestock and notify local police, by calling 101, of any suspected thefts.
“We urgently need to trace the owners of these animals.”
In August, police renewed an appeal for information after £32,000 of cattle were stolen from two farms in Aberdeenshire.
Three Limousin, two Simmental and a British Blue cow were taken from fields between June 27 and July 8.
A further 14 Charolais were later stolen from fields on July 27.
All cows had ear tags and police contacted marts, abattoirs and the Food Standards Agency, as well as issuing a warning for farmers to be vigilant.
Sergeant Morrison added: “Police Scotland recognises that livestock theft can have devastating effects for the farmer and their business.
“If every suspected theft is reported to police, we will gather vital information to investigate livestock theft and return animals to their rightful owners.
“Checking stock and perimeter fencing regularly, repairing any damage to property and ensuring animals are properly marked will limit the opportunity for theft.
“If you notice any suspicious activity in your community, report it to us.”
