Private John Emmanuel Ferger, H.L.I. admitted at Cupar yesterday having assaulted Private Neil McLaughlin, H.L.I and cut him with a razor. Mr J. Mitchell, solicitor, Cupar, stated in extenuatio­n that both men had been drinking heavily. They were the best of friends and Ferger had no recollecti­on of drawing his razor or of attacking McLaughlin. The Fiscal (Mr George Brander) said 12 stitches had to be put in McLaughlin’s arm. Sheriff Osborne sent the accused to prison for a month.

The visit next week of the famous French film actress Brigitte Bardot for the shooting of scenes for her next film at Tantallon Castle, East Lothian, has been kept a closely guarded secret by the villagers at Dirleton, East Lothian. They have known for several weeks that Miss Bardot is coming, and that she and her party will stay at a local hotel which has only seven bedrooms. She will arrive in London today and travel north at the weekend. The film is called “Two Weeks in September”.

Forfar Police have issued an urgent appeal for assistance following a weekend petrol-bomb type attack on a house in the town. No one was in the building when the missile was thrown through the first-floor window, setting furnishing­s alight and severely damaging the lounge of the house. The incident occurred at 10.55pm in Canmore Street. A police spokesman said a vessel containing flammable liquid was thrown through the window of the flatted house startring a fire. Forensic experts were at the scene.

A glitzy evening dress worn by Lorraine Kelly will be the star player at an event celebratin­g an Angus football club’s claim to global fame. Arbroath FC is marking the 130th anniversar­y of its world record 36-0 defeat of Bon Accord this year. Although the scoreline was equalled in June by FC Infonet Tallinn’s defeat of Virtsu Jalgpallik­lubi in an Estonian cup tie, it has never been beaten in associatio­n football. The club has decided to celebrate its goal-scoring exploits of yore with a gala dinner.
