TANNADICE: Frenchman vows to adopt no-nonsense approach
Dundee United new boy William Edjenguele has told fans to expect a defender whose speciality is good, oldfashioned defending.
The Frenchman, who joined United on a one-year deal earlier this week, is promising to adopt a no-nonsense approach to his game.
That will be music to the ears of supporters who will relish the prospect of having such a player at the heart of the Tangerines’ backline.
Edjenguele, who is set to play against Peterhead in the Irn Bru Cup match against Peterhead at Tannadice tomorrow, said: “I am a strong lad so I am ready for whatever teams throw at me. I can win headers and be a leader as well.
“The supporters can expect someone who enjoys defending, first and foremost.
“I also think I can score goals at setpieces but a defender is expected to defend and that’s what I enjoy doing.”
Deals for Edjenguele, Frank van der Struijk and – in the final few hours of the transfer window – Norwich City’s Tony Andreu represent a great week’s work by Tannadice manager Ray McKinnon.
The move also brought a hectic and uncertain spell to an end for Edjenguele, who played last season in Greece with Veria.
Edjenguele said: “It has been a long summer for me but I’m delighted the move is done. It has been a busy time for me because although I was playing in Greece I had just bought a house down in Coventry and had to do it up.
“I am originally from Paris but have based myself and the family in Coventry.
“The house didn’t need too much done to it but my missus wanted to decorate a little bit. I started to do it myself but DIY is not something I really want to do! “I now can’t wait to get started. “I have found a place to live already up here and have settled in well. I have also had a couple of training sessions with the lads so it’s all good.”
